Why IIPM courses are superior to MBA

IIPM has so far claimed the superiority of its Entrepreneur-ship program neither by the size of its campus, nor by the entry level salary of its pass-outs, but by its qualitatively superior and intellectually stimulating academic program. The IIPM course is a 22 month, 1944 hour course which includes in depth studies of national economic processes and ways to regulate its parameters to achieve higher growth rate of GDP ensuring higher growth of market segments within the national economy as well as higher growth of income of all sections of the people, including those who are below the poverty line.

The importance of including studies in national economic planning processes can be explained with an example of natural science. At one level of knowledge it appeared that the Sun revolves around the Earth. At a higher level of knowledge it was discovered that the Earth rotates around its axis and also revolves around the Sun. Similarly, present MBA course structure concentrating only on market segments by individual profit making units. This fails to explain the potentiality of market expansion through distributive justice.Potentiality of business is always in harmony with growth rate of national economy. That is why business expands much more rapidly in China compared with expansion of business seen in India in the past. Knowledge of national economic planning potentiality will encourage the owners of capital to demand collectively the raising of living standards of the people at the bottom.

IIPM’s Entrepreneurship program is superior to standard MBA programs as it also develops certain entrepreneurial qualities in program participants. These helps to remove aversion to calculated risk taking, imbued with ambition beyond normal career growth. Personal ambition in tune with social vision makes an entrepreneur reach out beyond boundaries again and again. Work remains no work, but hobby. Failures are looked upon as inevitable intermediate stages to success.

The IIPM programme further includes a compulsory specialisation in Marketing- wherein all the 20 plus papers of Marketing are compulsory for all students. Additionally students chose another elective like Finance or H.R. etc. This stems from the firm conviction that IIPM holds that BUSINESS IS MARKETING. This has also resulted in IIPM bringing out the best selling magazine 4Ps Business & Marketing- which has the same punch line i.e. Business is Marketing.

What perhaps is the most difficult part of the IIPM programme to be explained in words is the tremendous change in personality and life on the whole the IIPM course brings about thanks to its special focus on Executive Communication which is a 4 credit per trimester course running throughout the course duration. As a part of this course students typically have to participate compulsorily in more than 40 competitive debates and extempores under the eagle eyes of IIPMs world-class communication faculty members. The end result is a supremely confident and extremely smart personality which can speak from any public platform fearlessly.

IIPM also offers a unique Global Opportunity and Threat Analysis (GOTA) program, through which students are taken abroad for a period of 10-20 days, wherein the students get to attend lecture sessions at leading academic institutions and organisations like World Trade Organisation, United Nations, World Bank, Credit Suisse, Nestle, etc. This allows them to widen their horizon in understanding various forces of globalisation through experiential learning.

Further, under the Global Outreach Program, IIPM invites distinguished faculties from leading global institutions like Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, Chicago, Yale, London School of Economics, Oxford, Cambridge, IMD Lausanne, INSEAD, etc., to come down to India to interact with IIPM students. All this put together make the IIPM course better than any other course of a similar nature in India.

The 40th year of IIPM, 2013 was a landmark year for IIPM. IIPM won its cases against the AICTE wherein the Honorable High Court of India ruled that Management Education doesn't come under the purview of AICTE. Though IIPM has always maintained that it teaches entrepreneurial education (which was far superior in contents to any mangement programme taught anywhere across the world in terms of course content), yet it gave IIPM the right to teach management programmes directly as well. Thus IIPM launched IIMM, IIPM Institute of Marketing and Management, a new initiative to cater to the mass management market as well with a cost effective programme.

It offers two programmes at post graduate and under graduate level.

A.

IIMM Post Graduate Diploma in Mangement, is now a single specialization 11 month, 92 credit, 2200 hour programme inclusive of 840 hour contact programme, 126 hour (12 credit) guided diploma thesis, 1234 hour self study with an additional 2000 hour project work and on the job training as a requirement for obtaining the diploma. For credit calculation only the contact hours and guided thesis hours are taken.

Students doing the IIMM the simple specialization have the choice to specialize in Media and Entertainment, Realty and Infrastructure, Retail and Fashion, Banking and Finance, Hospital Management, Hospitality Management, Training and HRD, Insurance Management and Sports Management.

B.

IIMM Graduate Diploma in Mangement, for Under Graduates, is now a single specialization 22 month, 160 credit, 3980 hour programme inclusive of 1554 hour contact programme, 126 hour (12 credit) guided diploma thesis, 2300 hour self study with an additional 2000 hour project work and on the job training as a requirement for obtaining the diploma. For credit calculation only the contact hours and guided thesis hours are taken.

Further, from the year 2014 admissions, students may also note that a major portion of global exposure has become an option offered by IIPM's global initiative IMI! Even the free laptops now come only to those who opt for a programme with IMI. Students from this year may thus opt additionally for the IMI programme separately after doing the IIPM programme to take full advantage of IIPM's real global intellectual impact.

Thus the following is the new detail of the IIPM programme.

A.

IIPM Post Graduate Diploma in Planning and Entrepreneurship is now a triple specialization (marketing, economics and one more which they can choose), one super specialization (entrepreneurship) 140 credit, 2200 hour programme inclusive of 11 months of 1260 hour contact programme, 210 hour (20 credit) guided diploma thesis, 730 hour self study with an additional 2000 hour project work and on the job training as a requirement for obtaining the diploma. For credit calculation only the contact hours and guided thesis hours are taken.

IIPM India students also have an opportunity to do an additional super specialization in Wealth Management leading to a certificate from NUS (taught completely over the week by faculty from NUS), or a super specialization in Strategic Marketing leading to a certificate from HAAS (taught completely over the week by faculty from HAAS) or a super specialization in Strategic Leadership leading to a certificate from Harvard Business School faculty (past similar programmes have been conducted by HBS faculty Ms. Barbara Kellerman on Strategic Leadership and Rajiv Lal on Marketing).

These super specialization classes are held in Delhi for which students have to come and stay at their own expense. The programme fees for the same is an additional 1 lac rupees (waived off for batch toppers) and the programme is held only with a minimum of 60 students. This fees is payable only when the programme is announced. These super specialization hours are extra and not included in the IIPM programme hours and credit definition.

B.

IIPM Graduate Diploma in Planning and Entrepreneurship for (under graduates) is now a triple specialization (marketing, economics and one more which they can choose), one super specialization (entrepreneurship) 240 credit, 3980 hour programme inclusive of 22 months of 2310 hour contact programme, 210 hour (20 credit) guided diploma thesis, 1460 hour self study with an additional 2000 hour project work and on the job training as a requirement for obtaining the diploma. For credit calculation only the contact hours and guided thesis hours are taken.

In the first year students do a 100 credit bridge programme in entrepreneurship and management. In the second year students sit with the PG students who join IIPM that year and do their same 140 credit programme and have the same choice of super specialization as stated above for post graduate students.

All Students applying to all programmes may note, one credit is equal to 10.5 hours. IIPM’s unique Admission Test – EPAT

IIPM follows a common entrance exam (E-PAT) for all its programmes and based on the exam and other important criterions, candidates are finally selected. E-PAT (Entrepreneurship & Planning Admission Test) is based upon a written test, group discussion and interview. Unlike CAT, IIPM’s admission test E-PAT is based more on parameters pertaining to EQ (Emotional Quotient) and overall personality mapping since it has been globally observed that high IQ often takes a backseat to high EQ when it comes to Entrepreneurship and Management and dealing with human beings. Thus, the total scores of the written test, group discussion and personal interview are compiled together to compose the final score. Success in E-PAT is more likely to make you a better future leader than success in any other exam focused on IQ. E-PAT is conducted throughout India in more than 18 centres.
