JIPMER
JIPMER traces its origin to
1823 when a medical school called Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery was
established by the French. In November 1956, the Government of India
took over the medical college in the wake of the de facto transfer of
Pondicherry. The college was upgraded as a regional centre and renamed
Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research on
July 13, 1964. It now has about 3,000 students, 300 experienced teachers
and 565 resident doctors.

AFMC was set up in May 1948 by
an Act of Parliament by amalgamating various defence medical
organisations.The institute is presently affiliated to the Maharashtra
University of Health Sciences and is recognised by the MCI for
conducting undergraduate and various post-graduate medical courses.
Maulana Azad Medical College
The Maulana Azad Medical
College is a government medical college in Delhi affiliated to
University of Delhi. It is named after Indian freedom fighter Maulana
Abul Kalam Azad.

Madras Medical College
Madras Medical college was
established on October 1, 1850.The first batch of students graduated in
1852 and were granted the Diploma of Graduate of the Madras Medical
College. In 1857, it gained affiliation to the University of Madras. It
imparts training in all the specialities in the field of medicine and
surgery and it is now one of the premier institutions in the country
with undergraduate, post-graduate and super-speciality courses.The
courses offered by the Madras Medical College are affiliated from 1988
to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

Established in 1971 as a constituent college of University of Delhi. Runs various medical and paramedical courses.
St John's Medical College
St.John's was established in
1963 by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India. It offers graduate,
post-graduate, diploma and super-specialtiy degrees recognised by the
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore. At
present, 726 students are undergoing their training in medicine and
paramedical courses. A total of 608 staff, both teaching and
non-teaching, are on the payroll.

Medical education in Banaras
Hindu University took roots in 1920 with the establishment of Department
of Ayurveda under Faculty of Oriental Learning and Theology.In 1924-25,
ayurvedic aushadhalaya was established. In 1960, the ayurvedic college
was converted to the College of Medical Sciences. Further growth of
post-graduate education continued with approval of DM and MCh courses in
10 superspecialities in 1976.
King George Medical College - Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University
The King George Medical
College, Lucknow, established in 1911, has been a frontrunner among
medical education institutions in the country. By an Act passed by the
Government of Uttar Pradesh on September 16, 2002, the college was
transferred under a new university called the Chhatrapati Shahuji
Maharaj Medical University.

speciality hospital.the institution is best known for study of
undergraduate and post-graduate level medical courses, specialist
medical degrees and diplomas.
SMS Medical College
SMS Medical College was
established in Jaipur, Rajasthan, in 1947. This is the oldest college in
Rajasthan and one of the premier medical college of India. The college
has been conducting its activities with a common objective of imparting
healthy medical education & research as well as providing state of
art treatment to the needy people of the state. The college has a total
of 32 departments and eight hospitals attached to it.
