HISTORY OF Dr. M.G.R. UNIVERSITY Aiming to bring about change and progress through education, the Tmt.Kannammal Educational Trust was constituted in 1985 and started Thai Moogambigai Polytechnic College. Within three years of its inception, Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College was founded in 1988, and the Thai Moogambigai Dental College was started in the year 1991. Both the colleges acquired Deemed University status in 2003 as Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute as per the orders of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India, New Delhi. AN INSTITUTE WITH A VISION The 21st century poses a lot of challenges that could be overcome with the help of education and technology. Keeping this in mind Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Institute University was started with a vision of providing a better foothold for the students of today to face the challenges. DUAL ELECTIVES The dual electives offered are in Marketing, finance, Human Resources Management, Information Systems, Supply chain Management and International Business. Students are permitted to choose any stream of specialization in the third and fourth semesters. DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (MCA) DURATION Full time 3 years Part time 4 years ELIGIBILITY FOR MCA PROGRAMME 3 years Bachelors Degree in Computer Sciences/BCA/Maths/Statistics/B.Com/B.E./B.Tech or any other degree with Mathematics as one of the subject or must have studied mathematics in higher secondary as optional subject. Candidates appearing for final Bachelor’s Degree examination can also apply. Such candidates will be admitted after submitting a provisional certificate and final year mark sheet latest by august of the year of admission failing which the provisional admission will cancelled. UNDERGRADUATE DENTAL COURSES Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)  Under General Category 60 % marks on aggregate in physics, chemistry and Biology (Botany/Zoology) and English. For Scheduled Caste / Tribes 40 % aggregate marks in subjects as mentioned above. B.Sc Degree from any Indian University (recognized by the association of Indian University and accepted as equivalent by the standing Academic Board and Governing council of this University) with one of the following subjects as major subject-Physics, Chemistry, Botany, zoology and one other science subject at least up to ancillary level: provided such candidate shall have passed the earlier qualifying examination (Higher Secondary or equivalent) with the subjects English, Physics, Chemistry, Botany/Zoology. Candidates who are not from 10 + 2 structure of the national committee will have to undergo a one year Pre Professional training before admission to Dental Colleges as laid down by the Dental Council of India. For candidates who have studied abroad, the eligibility will be determined by the Association of Indian Universities. They should have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Botany/Zoology and English with 50% aggregate. Admissions are made subject to approval of the Govt.
